Who is responsible

CHEM KARIS Co. manufactures and sells water repellents, textile auxiliaries, fluorinated lubricants and concrete admixtures in Korea. CHEM KARIS GLOBAL INC. is its parent company.

This website and the personal data collected through it are managed by CHEM KARIS GLOBAL INC. (“we”, “us”). CHEM KARIS GLOBAL INC. decides how the personal data described in this policy is processed and is responsible for it as the data controller.

What this policy covers

This policy covers personal data collected through this website. Information exchanged in the course of a contract is handled under that contract.

What we collect

When you use the contact form, we collect:

• Name
• Company name
• Country
• Business email address
• Business type
• Estimated monthly volume, if you give it
• Product interest
• Message content, which usually concerns fabrics, processes or applications
• Your confirmation that you have read this policy

If you ask for samples, we also collect the shipping details needed to send them, including the courier account you provide.

To run and protect the site, our hosting provider processes technical data such as IP address, browser type, pages visited and approximate location. This data is used for spam protection, to measure how quickly pages load and to produce aggregate visit statistics. We do not use it to identify you.

Why we hold it and our legal basis

We use your data to answer your enquiry, to send the technical documents and samples you request, and to continue the conversation if it leads to a quotation or an order. We use technical data to keep the site secure and to understand how it is used.

We do not sell personal data. We do not add your email address to a marketing list unless you ask us to.

For visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA), we rely on the following legal bases under Article 6 of the GDPR:

• Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): answering product enquiries, sending data sheets and samples, discussing possible business, keeping the site secure and producing aggregate statistics.
• Contractual necessity (Article 6(1)(b)): when an enquiry turns into a quotation or an order.
• Consent (Article 6(1)(a)): only where you agree to receive marketing. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Who sees it

Enquiries are handled by the sales and technical staff of CHEM KARIS GLOBAL INC. and its subsidiary CHEM KARIS Co., the manufacturer of our products, only as far as needed to answer them. We also use service providers that process data on our behalf:

• WordPress.com, operated by Automattic Inc., which hosts the site and processes contact-form submissions, spam filtering and visit statistics
• Our email service provider, which delivers form submissions to our mailboxes
• The courier you choose (for example FedEx or DHL) when samples are shipped

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry data for up to 18 months after the last meaningful contact. If you ask us to delete it sooner, we will.

If an enquiry leads to a contract, the related commercial and accounting records are kept separately for the periods required by law.

Technical log data is kept only as long as needed for site security and aggregate statistics.

When the retention period ends, or when you ask us to delete your data, we delete it without delay. Electronic records are deleted so that they cannot be restored. Paper records, if any, are shredded.

How we protect it

Only the staff who handle enquiries can access them. The site and the contact form use encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access to our site administration and company mailboxes is protected by passwords.

International transfers

This section applies to all visitors.

When you submit the contact form, the data listed under “What we collect” is sent over an encrypted connection at the moment you submit it:

• To the United States, to Automattic Inc. (60 29th Street #343, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA; automattic.com/privacy), which hosts this site, stores contact-form submissions, filters spam and produces visit statistics for us. It holds the data on our behalf until we delete it, as described under “How long we keep it”.
• To the Republic of Korea, where the enquiry is delivered to our company mailboxes and handled by our staff.

If you do not want your data transferred in this way, please do not use the contact form. We will then not be able to receive your enquiry through this website.

For visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA): on 17 December 2021 the European Commission adopted an adequacy decision recognising that the Republic of Korea provides an adequate level of data protection. Transfers to the United States are protected by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs). You can request details through the contact form.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access the data we hold about you
• Have it rectified
• Have it erased
• Restrict its processing
• Object to processing based on legitimate interests, on grounds relating to your particular situation, and object to direct marketing at any time
• Receive your data in a portable format (data portability), where processing is based on consent or contract
• Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
• Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in the country where you live or work, or where you believe an infringement took place

Cookies

This site sets one cookie, pll_language. It remembers which language version you are viewing, contains only a language code and expires after one year.

Visit statistics and page-speed measurement are provided by WordPress.com. Their scripts do not set cookies; they use the technical data described under “What we collect”.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works, but it may not remember your language.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when needed. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
