C6 & C0 Water Repellent Agents
Two routes to a durable water repellent finish — fluorochemical and fluorine-free. Both made in our own plant, both inspected batch by batch.
What a DWR finish does
A finish that sheds water before the fabric can absorb it
A durable water repellent finish lowers the surface energy of the fibre so that water beads and rolls off instead of wetting through. The fabric still breathes — the finish coats the fibres rather than filling the spaces between them.
What separates one repellent from another is how the finish behaves after it has been washed, abraded and stored. CK GUARD grades are developed around that question, and every production batch is inspected before it leaves the plant.

Two ranges
Water only, or water and oil
CK GUARD N-SERIES repels water. CK GUARD WR-SERIES repels water, oil and soil.
C6
Water · oil · soil
CK GUARD WR-SERIES
C6 fluorocarbon repellent, free of PFOA and PFOS. Repels water, oil and soil, and holds its performance through repeated laundering. Used on polyester, nylon and cotton.
Typical uses
- Workwear and protective clothing
- Medical and barrier fabrics
- Upholstery with stain and soil resistance requirements
C0
Water · PFAS-free
CK GUARD N-SERIES
Fluorine-free and PFAS-free, with no fluorochemistry of any kind. Water repellency for mills working to PFC-free targets, on cotton, blends and synthetics.
Typical uses
- Outdoor apparel and sportswear
- Home textiles
- PFC-free and PFAS-free programmes
Grade options
How the grades differ
Grades in both ranges differ by carrier, ionicity and solids content.

Carrier
Water-based or solvent-based.

Ionicity
Nonionic, cationic, anionic and weakly cationic, for use alongside other auxiliaries in a combined bath.

Solids content
Available at more than one solids content.

Substrate
Polyester, nylon, cotton and blends. Cure conditions are given per grade in the technical data sheet.
Technical data sheets
Grade-level figures — add-on, cure window, spray and wash ratings — vary by grade and substrate and are given in the technical data sheet.

Quality is decided before the drum is sealed
Each production batch is inspected against its specification before it is released. That check is the reason a repeat order behaves like the first one — which matters more than any single figure on a data sheet.
Where the finish ends up
Applications
End uses for CK GUARD WR-SERIES and CK GUARD N-SERIES.

WR-SERIES · N-SERIES
Outdoor apparel and sportswear
Shells, tents and insulated layers that face rain, packing and repeated washing — and sportswear where a soft handle matters as much as the spray rating.

WR-SERIES · N-SERIES
Workwear and uniforms
Turnout gear and industrial uniforms that meet oil and fuel, and institutional workwear where rain is the only exposure. Both after repeated laundering.

WR-SERIES
Medical and protective textiles
Gowns and barrier fabrics where fluid resistance is specified.

WR-SERIES · N-SERIES
Home textiles and upholstery
Curtains and table linen; upholstery and furniture fabric where greasy soiling is also in scope.

WR-SERIES
Carpets and floorcoverings
Broadloom, tiles and rugs that have to hold a spill on the surface.

WR-SERIES
Leather and synthetic leather
Automotive and furniture surfaces facing water and greasy soiling.

Technical notes
The difference between C6 and fluorine-free water repellents
A C6 fluorocarbon repellent such as CK GUARD WR-SERIES lowers surface energy far enough to repel oil and grease as well as water. A fluorine-free repellent such as CK GUARD N-SERIES contains no fluorochemistry, so it repels water only.
PFOA and PFOS status
The CK GUARD WR-SERIES is a C6 chemistry free of PFOA and PFOS. The CK GUARD N-SERIES contains no fluorochemistry of any kind. Documentation to support your own REACH and ZDHC declarations is available on request.
Wash durability and spray rating
Wash durability differs by grade, by substrate and by how the finish is cured, so a single number would be misleading. Each grade’s data sheet gives its spray rating after a stated number of wash cycles under a stated method.
Running CK GUARD on an existing finishing line
The CK GUARD ranges are designed for conventional pad–dry–cure finishing, so in most cases no new equipment is needed. Bath concentration and cure conditions vary by grade and are given in the technical data sheet.
