Textile Pretreatment Auxiliaries

Preparation decides everything downstream. These are the auxiliaries that get the cloth clean, wettable and ready to take colour evenly.

Why it matters

What preparation removes

Greige fabric arrives carrying spin finish, sizing, natural waxes and whatever the loom left behind. Preparation removes it so the cloth wets out and takes colour evenly.

Pretreatment is also where water quality enters the process. Hardness ions and trace metals that are not sequestered here will interfere with peroxide bleaching and with the dyebath afterwards.

  • Even, rapid wetting on tight constructions
  • Removal of oils, waxes and sizing residues
  • Controlled peroxide decomposition during bleaching
  • Hardness and trace metals held in solution
  • A substrate that dyes to the same shade every lot

Product groups

What we make for this stage

Each group covers several grades. Dosage and conditions vary with the fibre and the process, and are given in the technical data sheet for each grade.

01

Desizing agents

Remove the size applied to warp yarns for weaving, so that scouring and bleaching can reach the fibre.

02

Scouring agents

Emulsify and remove natural waxes, spin finish and residual size ahead of bleaching and dyeing.

03

Bleaching stabilisers

Control the rate at which hydrogen peroxide decomposes during bleaching, for an even white and to limit fibre damage.

04

Wetting and penetrating agents

Lower surface tension so the liquor wets the fabric quickly and reaches the core of the yarn.

05

Degreasing agents

Remove machine oil and grease from heavily oiled goods, including knitted fabric where oil has worked into the loops.

06

Chelating and sequestering agents

Hold iron and copper in solution so they cannot catalyse peroxide decomposition, and calcium and magnesium so they cannot precipitate or shift the shade.

Next stage

Once the cloth is prepared

Dyeing auxiliaries take over: levelling, dispersing, anti-settling, fixing, soaping and anti-backstaining agents.
